About Gemma and Company
“My name is Gemma from Gemma and Company and here is a little bit about me.
I am an English girl living in Canada. I have always had a love for anything creative. Whether it is through cooking, painting, DIYs, sewing, knitting, the list goes on. Now, I will never say that I am proficient in any one thing or that I am any kind of authority on a subject. I will say, however, if you can try it, then give it a go and see what happens. What have you got to lose?
Over the years, with many trials and errors, I have managed to accumulate some knowledge in an array of subjects. And that is what I want to share here on this blog.”
“I was born and raised in the north of England, in a city called Carlisle. All of my family are creative in some way, so growing up, I was surrounded by many different skills. Without realizing it at the time, all of those skills have stayed with me in some way throughout my life. My mum and dad have played a huge part in who I am today. Even now, you will still find them working on some project or another. And that has really inspired me to be the same way.”
Where it all began for Gemma and company
“One of my earliest memories of cooking was baking a chocolate cake. Which technically turned out beautifully, except for the fact that I added a tablespoon of salt instead of a teaspoon. I never made that mistake again; in fact, it took me a while to add salt to anything.
I don’t quite remember where I began with gardening. What I do remember is starting with herbs, potatoes, and pepper plants. Herbs are a great place to start; they are pretty easy to grow and they have a use too.
Knitting and crochet didn’t truly appeal to me until I was in my 30s. Now, I find them so relaxing and great to do in the evening. It’s better than sitting on my phone scrolling.
Today, you will find me with my husband Nic and cat Crumpet in British Columbia, Canada.
I met Nic through friends back in 2010. I wouldn’t say we hit it off immediately. But over the coming weeks, we got to know each other better and our relationship grew from there. So, my advice now is don’t always go by first impressions; they could be wrong.
We were married in 2012 in a local greenhouse; it was a beautiful day. The following year, we got Crumpet the cat; she was a perfect addition to our family. Nic and I both love simple living, through good home-cooked food. Where we live we are fortunate to be able to grow a lot of what we eat. We also love to make anything and everything from scratch for our home.

I hope you will follow along as this blog grows with all I know, here.
