Have you ever tried a waffle bowl? If you haven’t then I would highly recommend trying one (I have linked mine below, go check it out). It is basically just a Belgian waffle but so much better. The bowl shape enables you to fill it with whatever you desire whether it is fruit, ice cream, chocolate, or even candy. How amazing it that.
There are gadgets or appliances for pretty much everything nowadays, some are absolutely worth every penny while others get stuffed instantly to the back of a cupboard never to be seen again. When my husband came home with this waffle bowl maker I wasn’t sure about it. Would we even use it? Well the answer was we did and have so much, we have even taken it on trips with friends and it is always a hit.
Tips using the waffle bowl maker
Don’t overfill the waffle bowl maker. This is so easy to do in fact underfilling would be better. There is a line that they say to fill up to but I suggest going slightly below this line. If you don’t the batter will bubble over the edges making a huge mess. I tend still do this a lot I make quite the mess.
The latch on our waffle maker broke meaning it wont seal closed. For a while we would weigh it down or hold it down to create a seal, you don’t need to. If the latch breaks on yours it will still work, it will puff up initially but as it cooks it will settle down. In fact I find this works better by not adding any strain to the top.
Set a timer. Once that lid is closed it isn’t the best to open it while its cooking they turn out the best when left to cook. I have found 5 minutes to be perfect, we are wanting our waffle to be a bit doughy with a light crisp that isn’t undercooked or dry.

Tools
A waffle bowl maker. This is the exact one I have, it works really well and is very simple to use. Click here.
Optional Stand mixer with whisk attachment. Link to mine here.
Waffle bowl ingredients
- All purpose plain flour
- Egg, medium sized
- Buttermilk, I make my own for this recipe mix together 1 cup regular cows milk and 1 tbsp white vinegar leave it to stand for 5 minute before using.
- Baking powder
- Granulated sugar
- Melted butter
- Vanilla extract
- Sea salt
How to make a waffle bowl
Place the buttermilk egg and vanilla into the mixing bowl, beat with your whisk until the egg had fully combined with the buttermilk.
Add in the rest of your ingredients, add the melted butter last.
Whisk all of the ingredients together really well so that it becomes a smooth batter with no lumps.
If the batter is a bit too thick then you can always add more milk, normal is fine if you do not have any buttermilk let over.
Preheat your waffle bowl maker according to the instructions mine has a light that will turn off when it is ready.
Pour the batter into the waffle bowl maker using a measuring cup or some sort of scoop/spoon up the fill line. I suggest going below the line and seal the lid closed with the latch or if it is broken like mine just close the lid and leave it to cook.
Set the timer for 5 minutes once time is up remove the waffle and repeat the process. Keep going until the batter is all gone.
Serving suggestions
Now comes the fun part filling the bowls with goodies. If you are making them for friends then creating a waffle bar with lots of options would be lots of fun. Some of my favourite fillings include:
- Fresh berry fruit like strawberries raspberries blueberries and blackberries
- Banana
- Chocolate chips
- Whipped cream
- Ice cream any flavour
- Candies like gummies or Haribos
- Maple syrup
- Any other syrups, fruit, chocolate, etc.
I hope you will go and try making a waffle bowl for yourself using a waffle bowl maker, I promise you will not be disappointed. This recipe will work for any traditional waffle maker if that is all you have available to you.

To make your own buttermilk mix together 1 cup cow milk and 1 tbsp white vinegar. Let it sit for 5 minutes before using.
If your batter is too think then add a little more milk. Normal milk is fine for this if you don't have any buttermilk left.
