Crochet and Knits the Ultimate Handmade Gifts
Knitted and crochet items are very popular when it comes to handmade gifts. Most of us may have received the obligatory scarf or mitts. Here though we are going to focus on items that can be used around the home.
Dishcloths they may seem a little boring but the truth is we all need them, and probably resent buying them. Why not make three or four and tie them up into a cute bundle.

Other ideas could include coasters, placemats, oven mitts, potholders, teapot cozy’s.
If you are looking for something a little more why not knit of crochet a blanket, these may take a little more effort but so worth it. What could mean more to someone than receiving a handmade blanket.
Candles and Soaps
These two tend to go hand in hand as they require similar ingredients like oils, fragrances, molds etc.
Soap
Now there are the more complex cold and hot pressed soaps these do take a little more skill. But if you are looking for something a little simpler and maybe a craft you can include the kids then try out the melt and pour soaps.
Candles
You can get very creative when it comes to candles. So many different vessels can be used, why not go to you local thrift store and see what you can find to turn into a candle. The popular one that you may instantly think of are teacups, I have seen lots of these around. They are very cute and perfect for that girly someone you may know.
I love to use stoneware dishes, they are beautiful or how about brass dishes, plant pots or crystal. Go shopping and get inspired.

Handmade gifts with Macrame
Macrame made a come back a few years ago, before then it was synonymous with the 1970’s. Which I will admit I love.
Macrame is a cool craft and cheap. If you know any plant lover then why not make them a plant hanger. I made one based on this design I love it, and is very easy. Why not check out Pinterest for so many more ideas and patterns.

Also why not get adventurous and have a go at a mirror hanger, I did make one a while ago I should share the pattern on here. What I love is the fact that I made them for some 1970’s mirror tiles.
Pressed flower art
This one you may not have thought of but they can be used to make a lovely gift.

I recently found greeting cards with images of pressed flowers that were placed in a way that created an art work.
Honestly I am not very good at explaining myself so here is an image of what I mean.
This gift will take planning as the flowers will need time to press. Why not collect flowers during the year and then in the cold winter months get them out and make some beautiful handmade gifts with them.
Plus it makes for a great excuse to get out in nature for some exercise. This could be classed as a very healthy craft project.
Sewing
I love to sew but I am far from skilled, rarely are my cuts straight or my tension correct but why would I left and of that stop me.
There are so many sewing projects you can choose from. There are simple lavender pouches that can be handstitched together, potholders they can be very simple. These project are also great to use up and scraps.
Or why not try something a little more intricate like an apron or perhaps a pouch.
Simple Pottery Handmade Gifts
Ok so before you panic I don’t mean pottery involving a potter wheel, that takes quite a lot of skill. Unless that is something you would like to try your hand at then have at it and have some fun.
No I am talking about that air dry clay you can buy from most craft stores at a very reasonable price.
This can be a very fun project. One that would be perfect for the whole family, as these handmade gifts can be personalized easily.

Glass painting
You may not have thought of this as a handmade gift. Although perhaps you have…. This was a popular craft in the 90’s I remember doin it with my mum and it is lots of fun. Again this one is a great project for the family.
I have noticed painted glass pieces making a come back in the stores so why not make your own and upcycle on old piece of glassware.
Other handmade gifts to try.

This is really just a very basic list of handmade crafts. It is here to spark some inspiration get you perhaps thinking outside the box when it comes to making your own gifts. There is truly so much you can do and whoever ends up receiving your gift will be so grateful for the effort.
Also don’t forget to add that personal touch, one that will add a beautiful reminder of the effort and love you put into this handmade gift.
