We spend so much more time stuck indoors through the winter and it is easy to just sit on our phones scrolling. Instead why not try your hand at a new craft, learn something new or even improve your skills at a craft you already know. Here are ten simple crafts you may like to try.
There are so many crafty ideas to choose from it can be overwhelming to know what to do. But some crafts are a lot more available than others and that can be a good place to start when deciding.
Ten Simple Crafts to try
Look at how much will it cost, what supplies and tools would you need, and also how complicated do you want to go. Once you figure those things out then the list will more than likely shrink to something a bit more manageable.

1. Crochet
Crochet is a great craft to try if you are new to crafting. Investment costs when starting out are pretty low which is really nice. All you really need is a hook, yarn and a pattern.
I found this really helpful You tube video from simply daisy. They break down how to crochet step by step and in a very simple way.
There are some really simple patterns right here on my blog that you could try. Macrame cord was used for these patterns which could be then used to try out macrame too.

2. Macrame
This is another great craft that is easy to learn and costs very little to make. I think it goes hand in hand with crochet.
A great beginner project to try when starting out with macrame is to make a plant holder.
I found this tutorial from simplyfrayed.com when I was starting out and really enjoyed making it.
3. Authentic Paper flowers
If you are looking for something a bit more adventurous then this might be the craft for you. From a simple poppy to and intricate orchid there’s a lot of options. Now this craft requires a lot more investment, paper, glue wire, pastels, and clay the list of tools is quite long. But don’t let this put you off start simple and build from there.

4. Cross Stitch
I started cross stitching as a child it is a lovely thereputic craft. What I love with this craft is that you can buy some beautiful kits that include everything you need to make a beautiful cross stitch. Here are a couple that I found.
Heathers edge craft has some really nice mini kits to choose from.
Diana Watters handmade, Kiki’s kitchen is super cute too and a little more adventurous.
5. Knitting some simple crafts
I love to knit and actually prefer it over crochet, I just love how it looks. It is a bit more involved than crochet but is definitely worth trying.
Try one of my free patterns here on the blog there are a few that you can choose from. My personal favourite is my knitted book cozy. This would make a really nice gift for any bookworms you may know.
Another simple pattern you may like to try would be my owl mug cozy. Another great project to gift to someone.
6. Pocket Dolls
This craft is a little different than the others. It is just really cute, it is also a great one try if you have little girls that like to sew and love all thing girly.
These pocket pixie dolls by Gingermelon are so cute and pretty easy to make. Gingermelon has so many amazing felt pocket doll patterns to choose from, I would definitely check out their Etsy shop
I also came across this adorable felt mouse by Wizardi that would be a fun project that is very similar to the dolls.
8. Bath bombs
If you are looking for a quicker one off kind of craft then bath bombs are a great option.
They are quick and lots of fun to make. They are also a fantastic kids craft too if you are looking for a craft you can do together.

9. Sewing simple crafts
Sewing projects can encompass so many thigs whether it is for the home or clothing or even your pet it can be hard to decide which avenue to follow. I would say though that if you are just starting out then home sewing projects tend to be the easiest.
Try out my Envelope cushion pattern or my collapsible box for two very simple yet practical projects.
10. Design a photobook
Lastly as simple crafts go this one is a bit of a wild card.
Is it a even craft? Depends on how you look at it really. At the end of the day you are creating something. And if we are being honest it has kind of taken the place of scrapbooking for many of us.
It is a great idea for anyone who doesn’t have the room for crafting supplies but would still love to create something over the winter months.
I love to create my own photobooks. Being able to make something so unique and beautiful that displays favourite memories you can look back on time and time again is an awesome thing.
In the past I have used Photobook Canada for my own photobooks, obviously this will not be available to everyone.
